The Advantages and Disadvantages of Wind Power Turbines

August10

Renewable energy continues to remain the centre stage in the global agenda for climate change. This article explores some of the advantages and disadvantages of harnessing wind-power.

Traditionally, energy is generated through burning fuel, and this is still in practice today. In fact, there are a great number of coal burning power plants in the United States as well as in China. This continues to have a hazardous impact on the environment, and also contribute to these nations carbon footprints.

These days, however, governments have started to concentrate on renewable energy which is both a safe and clean fuel unlike nuclear waste and many alternative energy sources.

The Advantages of Wind Power

· Wind is free and it is a relatively easy power source to harness.

· Wind turbines take up a small amount of space, which means they are efficient in terms of land usage.

· Many people find wind farms are very unique and attractive feature.

· Wind farms are useful in areas are not connected to the national grid. It gives them a viable power source which is also environmentally friendly

· Wind turbines have played a major role in helping the developing world. Which is proof that this is a viable and affordable technology

The Disadvantages of Wind Power

· The wind cannot be depended upon. It is not a constant force, and as a result of this turbines do not generate power consistently compared to other alternatives such as nuclear fussion.

· Many people feel that they are an eyesore and should not mark the landscape.

· Living near a wind turbine can be noisy.

· Large wind farms can be required to provide large amounts of power as a result of this to power a town would require a huge number of turbines.
